Gesellschaft für Schweißtechnik International mbH (GSI) was founded by the German Welding Society (DVS - Deutscher Verband für Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e.V.) in 1999. The SLVs (Schweißtechnische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalten) had been conducting their activities in Germany over 80 years and this institution was established by gathering the long-term experience of all the SLVs in the field of welding and inspection technologies under a single structure.

GSI is a non-profit, limited company, working with individuals, qualified commercial enterprises, industrial establishments, private authorities and research institutions.

The purposes of GSI are to conduct welding training and provide welding consultancy inside and outside Germany and to make technology transfer.

GSI, with its 600 employees where 150 are engineers, is actively working in about 50 countries.

The annual numerical data of GSI services are as follows:

  • 20,000 persons: Welding training programs and welding examinations
  • 1,500 persons: Welding coordination personnel trainings
  • 6,000 persons: Comprehensive training programs and seminar provided for the administrative personnel
  • 2,500 workplaces: Compliance certification
  • 600 ea: Material and damage analyses
  • 180 ea: Research and Development Projects
